07 Jul Why Performance Enhancement Training Matters/Part 2
In Part one I briefly went over why players increasing their athletic ability is important along with the skill development.I will now go over some of the frequent things that I have observed with kids and teenagers alike who struggle with the same issues preventing them from becoming the best version of themselves. Here is a list as follows:
1)Total uncoordination between upper and lower body( clumsy movements)
2) A lack of coordination between their left and right hand(having a weaker hand that is undeveloped)
3) Poor Posture( rounded shoulders, can’t keep a high chest)
4) Poor Balance( Can’t point all ten toes in the same direction or tight ankles)
5)The inability to isolate movements( total lack of body control from a lack of body awareness)
6)Weak upper and lower body( A lack of ability to generate power using the whole body )
7)Collapsing knees when they squat( may be a cause of a biomechanical restriction)
8) Slow feet/Heavy feet(Feet just won’t move with a conscious effort.Feet are loud when running that slows down movement
9) Lack of speed and agility( A lack of reaction time that must be developed)
10) Can’t move well laterally( Struggles to get and keep their feet under their hips when moving)
These are what I refer to as real biomechanical flaws and energy leaks that will prevent them from being able to play the game at a high level. I often suggest to parents that if their child struggles athletically that they should consider putting them in an athletic performance program when they become of age. It will give them a jump start and help to build a solid foundation for future success.
