In part one I addressed why coaches telling kids to go and just put up shots, generally is bad generic advice for shot improvement.
Shooting is complex as the skill requires a sequence of uniform controlled movements. That alone will cause kids to tap out they are not fully understanding shooting principles. When they miss a shot and don’t understand why they missed the shot, no adjustment occurs, mistakes are repeated, and progress is stalled.
Each shot miss can be the result of various mechanical flaws where as youth players lack the experience to make corrections.
The safest, most efficient thing to do is to be willing to invest in a shooting Coach specialist. They will shorten the learning curve, help to build good foundational habits for long term success, and will correct players and give adequate feedback in real time where each sessions will have a compounding effect on the learning process.
After vetting for a shooting Coach ,if they are an expert or master at what they do, they can develop a player’s shot in months that would normally take years. For the right coach the investment is worth it!!
