Skill development begins with the right mindset. When players approach skill development with the right mental frame the results are certain and progress does not take long.

The first thought to adopt is understanding exactly what the coach’s purpose is in the coaching process. The coach is a guide, a motivator, a teacher, and a challenger.  The coach’s first goal is to push a player out of their comfort zone. Growth is discomfort. Training is friction. Real results will come from self discipline ,not motivation.

The coach will challenge you and shorten your learning curve by exposing your habits to yourself and give you practical solutions to the best possible outcomes.

A common occurrence in the coaching process is the coach will give solutions and recommendations that players will sometimes resist because the solution or the fix to mechanical flaws may feel awkward at first but requires trust that comes from the coach’s knowledge and experience. The correct way to execute a technique may at first feel like the wrong way. Trust the process and respect the principles. Grind. Put the necessary work in. Be willing to do what most won’t do and success will favor you.
