Real player development consist of more than just running drills and sweating. Like building a house, there is foundational work, maintenance work, and finished work(results).
Most of the time parents and players unintentionally think that just showing up and engaging with the sessions is enough to build from. They expect results from that alone without the follow through practice. This brings me to my main point. Coaching is a system that demands everyone to do their part to get the desired results. Understanding this is going to determine the outcome.
There is a developmental window that is consistent with data. Ninety days in, I start to see real results. Bad habits get rewired and good habits emerge. There are no quick fixes in real development .If players are not willing to commit to a practice schedule they will lose battle against bad habits every single time.
The force of habits are more powerful than most realize and you don’t fully experience the resistance until you try to overcome them. It’s not magic. It’s guaranteed from effort. I will continue this discussion in part two
