A Revisit Back to the Guide Hand

A Revisit Back to the Guide Hand

The purpose and function of the guide hand is probably the most confusing and misunderstood aspect to shooting. In an earlier post I referred to this hand as the control hand because it is the hand that controls the shot sequence from start to finish.

Here is where it gets confusing when the purpose of this hand is not completely understood as it pertains to shooting the ball. It is the control hand itself yet hard to control in the mechanics of the shot.  There are alot of erratic movements with this hand that must be brought under control and the first key to that is how you position this hand on the ball as it will determine if it helps or hinder the shot.. If you position this hand properly on the ball and apply just the right amount of pressure with it you won’t have a problem with learning how to shoot.  Its real secret is stability and that is where the control lies

It determines if the ball has spin on it, period. It also determines if the ball has proper spin or side spin on. It also determines if the shot is soft or a hard catapult. If you want to have a consistent shot pay attention to what the guide is doing.
