When it comes to overall basketball skills, the skill of shooting is the great separator and is a determining factor if you will play collegiate or beyond. Unless you are a freakish athlete with size and raw ability, most players will need pure skills to play at the higher levels. Shooting is that main skill. As a development Coach for 14 years, Shooting is the skill that I push my players to work on the most. When college coaches attend games for recruiting they primarily look for shooters first. Most of their offenses are designed for spacing and elite shooting is what makes that possible, plus when a coach sees that a player can shoot the ball extremely well it signals work ethic ,discipline, attention to details, confidence, and determination that builds trust instantly. When you can shoot, the game becomes easier for you and coaches will design offenses around you. Your skill will command respect no matter the environment. It guarantees playing time most of the time. Players if you want to create your opportunities and get noticed ,develop your shot. Make it a number one priority.
