Why Performance Enhancement Training Matters/Part 4

{The Separator}:

Youth sports in general especially in the arena of basketball have become highly competitive over the past few years. As a seasoned coach especially in the area of skill development I am around basketball daily. I see fierce competitive play at the local parks, pickup ball at local community centers, school basketball as I support my players on school teams, and especially the travel teams and AAU circuit .

One thing that always stands out no matter where the competition or environment the games are played ,it is not always the most skilled players that dominate, but the most athletic even if they are less skillful. Skill matters but athleticism dominates and this is why I refer to it as the great separator among players.

I am not saying that skills are not valuable because they are as it is nearly impossible if not impossible to play at an elite level without them. It requires refined and advanced skills (my specialty) to play at the highest levels so that in and of itself proves the value of skills but a player who has skills and superior athleticism will most certainly always be the dominate player. A great ball handler will have an impact on a game but a great ball handler with athleticism can alter the game entirely and determine the outcome. Parents if you have a player/players that are ages 11 or 12 which is around the base age, I would definitely recommend slowly implementing your child into a performance enhancement training program that will give him or her a jump start on their peers and an advantage in competition.
